Chapter 1265 - 1264: Love Truly Makes People Grow
Leah directly dismissed Richard Shaw’s proposal and then called Serena Winton, asking her to meet up.
Serena waited all night and the next morning, only to find that the Shaw Family was completely inactive, letting her tarnish Leah’s name. She was so delighted she nearly jumped up; Richard Shaw didn’t care much for that woman after all.
Feeling more confident, Serena planned to test Leah’s true capabilities, but first, she wanted to embarrass her.
"We can meet, but I’ve been really busy lately." Serena coyly played hard to get, "How about this, there’s a charity gala tomorrow night. If you can get an invitation, let’s meet there."
Tomorrow night’s charity gala was the biggest elite charity event of the winter, and the invitations had long been reserved. Leah, coming from a small corner of Southeast Asia, supposedly clinging to Richard Shaw through cosmetic surgery, had no right to participate. Serena merely wanted to unsettle her and then stir up a second wave of gossip.
Serena was convinced that this woman looked identical to Crystal Landon because of plastic surgery. If it had been Crystal herself, would she have claimed not to know her in such a scene and ignored her? Serena, having endured much since childhood, couldn’t believe Crystal Landon would easily let her go. Back in the day, she was beaten, had things thrown at her, and was kicked by Crystal.
She absolutely wouldn’t believe that her old rival, though dead for many years, could still rise from the grave. That life was simply a nightmare.
"A charity gala? Sure." Leah readily agreed, hung up the phone, looked at Lana and Calliope Shaw, and asked, "What charity gala is taking place tomorrow night?"
"The early winter elite charity gala, pretty much like the one in the fashion circle. But tomorrow, only the high society of Imperial City will attend. Leah, is Serena Winton meeting you at the gala? That’s too vicious; she’ll definitely try to ridicule and belittle you then," Lana Shaw said angrily.
"I’ll go with you and Lana tomorrow night," Calliope Shaw said with a frown, "You’ve been away from Imperial City for too long and aren’t familiar with many people and matters. The two of us can give you a little heads-up on the side."
Leah nodded, "Alright, but I don’t have an invitation."
Lana and Calliope exchanged a glance and laughed in unison, "Our big cousin has one."
The Imperial City elite gala surely makes an exception for the Shaw Family. Even if the Shaw Family never attends, the organizers will keep an invitation reserved for them. It’s been a long-standing tradition.
Richard Shaw was being stared directly by Leah’s bright eyes, she could charm with her gaze like a little puppy. The man’s eyes flickered, and he said in a deep voice, "The invitations sent every year are kept with Aunt Zhao, I’ll go find one for you."
Richard Shaw asked Aunt Zhao and indeed found an invitation.
"Shall I accompany you?" Richard Shaw offered.
"You stay home." Leah smiled, as this was a woman’s battleground.
The three women quickly discussed what to wear and accessorize for tomorrow. After the Shaw extended family finished their morning tea and dispersed, Leah set off shopping with Lana and Calliope Shaw.
The men were left at home, staring at each other. Casimir Shaw promptly took the books he had bought yesterday to read, while the man leisurely brewed a pot of tea in the tea room, browsed Weibo, and called his men to have all those internet trolls blacklisted. As for the bloggers who reposted and spread the rumors, their accounts were also shut down indefinitely.
And so, accounts with millions of followers, including some famous figures from Imperial City, were permanently banned, causing an uproar on Weibo.
Whoa, how powerful must this background be?
Richard Shaw spent the morning expressionlessly dealing with these trolls and internet warriors, remembering some noteworthy faces for later retribution.
Then he received a call from Ignatius Leclair.
"Old Shaw, your wife’s Weibo got bombarded. Do you want me to step in, hmm?" Ignatius Leclair’s voice was thick with displeasure. The man noticed first thing in the morning that his wife’s Weibo had exploded due to the black PR against Leah, which inadvertently dragged Delphine into the mess. What on earth kind of crazy maneuver is this?
He had no problem with Leah being targeted, but Delphine was another matter. Ignatius Leclair was avenged by nature; he immediately called to demand an explanation.
How had Old Shaw been operating in recent years? Such obvious water forces could surface? If this were under his control, they would have been annihilated already.
No wonder he couldn’t pursue Leah, couldn’t handle Griffith Squire, and deserved to be single. Ignatius Leclair rolled his eyes. Old Shaw just didn’t measure up. He himself had already moved up, while Old Shaw was still in a stalemate. It really seemed to be a matter of capability.
"I’m already handling it. It’ll be settled by tomorrow," Richard Shaw said flatly. He originally intended to let this situation play out, otherwise, Leah would just pack her bags and head back to Southeast Asia. She always had a carefree nature, unless something big happened in Imperial City.
When he had met Serena yesterday, he’d considered all the possible developments and even helped things along, ensuring Leah would have to stick around Imperial City to keep getting entangled with him.
Ignatius Leclair raised an eyebrow at this, then narrowed his long, deep-set fox-like eyes, smiling meaningfully, "So you’re planning to take center stage, huh?"
Old Shaw, this straightforward guy, had learned these twists and turns, indeed love makes people grow.
"Don’t wait until our triplets are born and you’re still in this lukewarm state with Leah, and Griffith Squire also needs to be dealt with. As far as I can see, that man respects strength. You shouldn’t always give way to him. When it’s time to be tough, be tough," Ignatius Leclair said while opening the door to check on the silly dog at home, calling it out and taking it for a walk while picking up breakfast for Delphine.
"It’s going to happen soon." Richard Shaw’s gaze deepened, his voice becoming more somber, "I’ve already discussed it with Grandma."
That’s why Richard Shaw didn’t want Leah to return to Southeast Asia. He wanted to spend more time with her before taking care of that matter. Although the incident back then didn’t directly affect him, the future was still uncertain.
"Alright, just do it. I think this has become a heartache for you and your grandma over the years. Don’t worry. Even if the Shaw Family crumbles, the salary you’ve deposited with me over the years has multiplied a thousandfold. You won’t starve. At least you’re richer than I am, as I’m currently living off my wife," the man said sarcastically, not forgetting to show off at the end. Giving Delphine all his assets was the wisest choice he made—it had tied her to him firmly, hadn’t it?
Richard Shaw rolled his eyes and hung up the phone.
"For the sake of us sharing pants since we were kids, I’ve decided to teach you the tricks to win a wife," Ignatius Leclair said, leading the energetically bouncing dog with a smirk, just as the call ended.
Ignatius Leclair: "..."
