Chapter 69 Brother Wei, you're such a good person

Chapter 69 Brother Wei, you're such a good person

The sound reached them, and the breakfast stall owner, who was hiding some distance away, glanced over and then silently moved even further away.

"Pretty arrogant, huh?"

"You, an outsider, dare to stand up for yourself here? Beat him up."

"I'll beat you to death if you don't behave."

The thugs showed no fear and began to noisily surround Li Wei.

Only Shen Yueru's husband shuddered, stopped beating her, and took a few steps back in fear.

"Brother Wei, you should leave! There are too many of them." Shen Yueru seemed used to this and instead urged Li Wei to leave.

A strange sadness welled up in Li Wei's heart. He could tell that this guy was just an ordinary scoundrel with bad interpersonal relationships, but these kind-hearted people didn't want to cause trouble, simply because they were afraid of getting entangled and getting into trouble.

Those who remain indifferent to matters that don't concern them only encourage petty thugs, ultimately turning them into incorrigible criminals.

Looking back, I realize I'm almost becoming that kind of person. I was afraid of trouble from the start, and I only thought it wasn't my business. I almost became the same indifferent person as them.

Li Wei stood in front of Shen Yueru to protect her, and said coldly, "You'd better not mess with me. Let the police handle this."

"Out-of-towner, what are you acting all high and mighty for? You even dare to call the police? Let's beat him up."

"Yeah, we'll beat you up." For some reason, the thugs just shouted but didn't actually do anything.

Preparing for a surprise attack, Li Wei took out his phone and handed it to Shen Yueru: "Sis, call the police! I'll be here watching today, let's see who dares to bully you."

Shen Yueru's husband panicked. Seeing that everyone was making a fuss but not taking any action, and that Shen Yueru had already started dialing the police on her phone, he noticed that Li Wei wasn't paying attention. So he sneaked closer and suddenly struck Li Wei with a stick.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Li Wei tilted his head to avoid a vital spot, taking the blow with the fleshy part of his body. He waited for the second blow before dodging it, then kicked the clueless idiot a few steps away.

The guy got kicked and landed hard on his backside, then lay down and yelled, "Someone's been killed!"

Shen Yueru sat on the ground, watching helplessly as her husband was kicked far away by Li Wei, without even blinking, and continued to tell him the location and call the police.

After reporting the incident to the police, he calmly made another phone call and chattered on and on with a smile.

Good heavens, I'm roaming! Calling the police is free, I don't care, but why did you call someone else instead?

She continued the call until Li Wei couldn't help but urge her to stop, at which point she reluctantly hung up and handed the phone back to him.

Li Wei took the phone and quickly put it in his pocket. He couldn't lend it to anyone else anymore. He'd been traveling a lot lately, and his phone bills had gone way over budget. What kind of world is this? The more you earn, the more you spend.

Looking at these two, one was lying down and the other was sitting, both staring at Li Wei without saying a word, while the other thugs just stood around making a fuss.

I don't understand! What's going on here? Are they still going to fight or not?

Seeing that things had calmed down, the onlookers began to gather around, chattering and pointing.

It has to be said that our people's police are really fast, unlike those foreign police officers in movies who only show up after the fighting is over and the scene has ended.

Not long after, a police van pulled up, and a policeman in his fifties got out, followed by a younger policeman and two auxiliary policemen.

The thugs immediately and in perfect unison dispersed, blending into the crowd of onlookers, as if they weren't the ones who had been shouting earlier.

The older policeman came over to look at everyone and asked sternly, "Who called the police?"

Shen Yueru sat there, raised her still swollen face, and cried, "It's me."

The old policeman first looked at Shen Yueru's face, then at the person lying on the ground, and his expression quickly darkened.

Li Wei could see it clearly; the old policeman's lips twitched slightly a few times, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Come on, come back to the station with me to make a statement and explain things clearly." The old policeman clearly recognized them, sighed, and decided to take them back for processing.

"I also want to call the police. This out-of-towner beat me up. I was seriously injured and need to be hospitalized." Shen Yueru's husband pointed at Li Wei and called the police directly to the old policeman.

The old policeman looked at Li Wei and said with a puzzled "Hmm?"

Li Wei explained, "He hit me with a stick, and when he hit me again, I dodged. He then lay there asking for money, but I didn't even touch him."

The thugs huddled in the crowd started shouting, "They beat them! They beat them really badly!"

"Officer, look, he's smashed this table."

"Make this outsider pay compensation; we won't let him leave without at least several hundred thousand."

"Yes, outsiders dare to cause trouble here, you police should do something about it!"

The policeman said to Li Wei, "Let's go to the station and explain things."

He then pointed at the group of thugs and shouted, "Stop making a scene! If you want to testify, come on over! Who? You? Or you?"

The old policeman pointed at someone, and that person shrank back. Finally, he muttered something angrily, stepped forward, pulled up the person lying on the ground, and said, "Stop pretending with me, get in the car yourself."

After being pulled up, he stopped complaining about being seriously injured and obediently got into the car and sat down.

Li Wei reached out his hand, ignoring the shouts of the thugs around him, pulled Shen Yueru up, and helped her to the police car to wait.

The old policeman called over the breakfast stall owner, took him to a secluded place, questioned him, took notes in his notebook, and made him sign and put his fingerprints on the document. He then questioned a few other people, ignoring the thugs completely.

After all that fuss, the veteran policeman came over and told Li Wei and Shen Yueru to sit in the back. Two auxiliary policemen got into the car, one on each side, squeezing the guy in the middle. Before he could even speak, Shen Yueru's husband chickened out: "Um, officer, my wife and I had a fight, so we don't need to bother you. It's all my wife's fault for being unreasonable. I'll teach her a lesson when we get back."

The old policeman snorted, "How are you going to teach him a lesson? Keep hitting him? You think you can just go back like that?"

As they were talking, they started the car and drove off, arriving at the police station not far away.

Once the car came to a stop, the old policeman got out and seemed like a completely different person. He grabbed the young man, his face grim, and dragged him away.

The others were very polite to Li Wei and his companion, leading them to a room and telling them to rest for a while before giving their statements.

The door closed, leaving the two of them staring at each other. Shen Yueru unconsciously moved a little closer to Li Wei.

"Don't be afraid, you can get a forensic examination later, and it will be evidence in court," Li Wei suggested, offering a bad idea.

Shen Yueru gave a soft reply, then stared blankly at Li Wei without saying a word.

Li Wei felt uneasy under their gaze. He touched his face; his beard was shaved, and there was no dust on his face even though he hadn't been working. His clothes were the kind he wore for work, so they weren't dirty.

"Brother Wei..." Shen Yueru called out softly and abruptly, quietly moving a little closer.

"Huh?" Li Wei felt something was wrong after agreeing. Her tone was off. Was this silly girl overthinking things?

"Girl, find a good family to marry into and live a good life. There aren't many people like your boyfriend. You're just unlucky to have met such a jerk. If you have the chance, come visit me and meet your sister-in-law, niece, and nephew," Li Wei said with a smile.

"Brother Wei, thank you, you're such a good person." Shen Yueru seemed not to hear Li Wei's words, speaking softly to herself.

That's great, it's wonderful that you gave me a "good guy" card.
