Chapter 2444 - 1545: Riches from Raising the Coffin
"Hui, Hui..."
Fang Weiguo, who was up for a drink of water, stared unwaveringly at his own front door as if he had discovered something unbelievable, his face full of shock. He quickly hurried back to the bedroom, calling out as he walked.
"What’s all the fuss about so early in the morning?"
Pan Hui turned over in bed.
"Come out quickly!"
Fang Weiguo pushed open the ajar bedroom door, looking jittery, "You have to see this, our door..."
"What’s up with the door?"
Pan Hui, utterly perplexed, had to lift the covers, get up, slip on her slippers, and yawn as she walked out of the bedroom.
"Look!"
When she finally got a clear view of the front door, her expression instantly changed dramatically.
Immediately.
She couldn’t help but rub her eyes, wondering if she was seeing things.
"What’s going on... am I dreaming?"
She looked to her husband in confusion.
"What dream!"
Fang Weiguo’s emotions calmed slightly, but his astonishment was unabated. "What happened to our door?"
That’s right.
Upon waking up.
Their front door had miraculously changed its appearance, from an ordinary wooden door to a composite security door!
Faced with such a situation, anyone would be baffled.
"Could it be aliens?"
Fang Weiguo murmured.
Pan Hui gave him a light slap, "Where are the aliens? Are you still half-asleep?"
Fang Weiguo pointed at the mysteriously changed door, "Then this..."
Pan Hui also couldn’t explain it, equally puzzled, she adjusted her nightgown, "Go ask Qing Qing."
She immediately went to her daughter’s bedroom door.
"Knock knock, knock knock... Qing Qing..."
The door opened.
Fang Qing stood there in a two-piece pajama set, in a refreshing sky blue color, with silky smooth long hair that didn’t look disheveled, deep black and shiny. Her eyes were sleepy, clearly just woken up.
"Mom, what’s up?"
Pan Hui turned her head and gestured with her eyes towards the front door, "Our door, what’s going on?"
Fang Qing looked over, her reaction was different from her parents, or rather, she had no reaction at all, nonchalantly explaining: "I changed it."
Case solved.
Indeed.
No need to talk about aliens.
"When did you change it?"
Fang Weiguo came over.
"Last night."
Seemingly returning late and not having had a good sleep, Fang Qing briefly explained in a couple of sentences, then said, "I still need some more sleep."
With that, she closed the bedroom door again, leaving her parents outside exchanging glances.
Changed last night?
Who replaces a door in the dead of night?
And.
What was the reason?
Although they learned it was their daughter’s doing, the old couple was still full of bewilderment. After exchanging looks, Fang Weiguo walked to the new door and touched it.
To be honest.
It indeed felt much sturdier and more reliable than the old wooden door, full of security.
Testing it out, he pushed the door open, and then, the lingering strong smell from the night before hit his nostrils. Fang Weiguo instinctively frowned, then saw the half-dried paint marks at their doorstep, like dark red blood puddles, trailing all the way down the stairs.
Fang Weiguo was stunned, then quickly closed the door with a "bang," and hurriedly walked to his daughter’s bedroom door.
"Knock knock knock... Fang Qing, come out here!"
"What are you doing! Keep it down! You’re going to break the door!" Pan Hui was still in the dark.
The bedroom door opened again.
Fang Qing looked helpless, "Can’t this wait till later?"
"No way."
Fang Weiguo pointed at the front door, asking sternly, "What exactly is going on?"
"I already said."
Qing Gege responded slowly, "Jiang Chen’s new door looked nice, so I changed ours too. Our door’s been there for almost ten years, hasn’t it? It needed changing."
Among neighbors, there’s indeed a tendency to compete with each other.
The front door is often the easiest place for competition.
In some extreme places, neighbors aren’t allowed to have larger doors, nor taller doors than one’s own.
"Weren’t you supposed to pick up Fu Zili last night? Didn’t you have a gathering? Why change the door so late at night?"
Pan Hui couldn’t help asking.
"Don’t listen to her nonsense."
Fang Weiguo decisively exposed his daughter’s illogical lies, "You changed the door, fine, but what about the paint outside? It’s everywhere."
"Paint?"
Pan Hui was surprised.
"Maybe when changing the door, the paint got knocked over accidentally."
Qing Gege truly wasn’t good at lying.
This should have been handled by the person opposite.
"The paint got knocked over? This is a finished door, why would you need paint? Your dad may not have had a lot of education, but he’s not a fool."
Listening to her husband’s words, Pan Hui sensed something amiss too, quickly asking, "Qing Qing, what’s really going on? Why is there paint?"
Their eyes met.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
Scene change.
Jiang Chen had already been brought over.
Pan Hui had also seen the outside paint, quite frightening, looking like blood, and it covered a large area, all over the staircase. The thing is, it might not be completely removable.
It’s fine during the day, but seeing it suddenly at night without any mental preparation would give someone a fright. If one accidentally stepped into it or fell on the stairs, that would be a significant problem.
"Uncle Fang, Aunt Pan, actually..."
Jiang Chen was quite helpless, not because he hadn’t rested well—by now it was almost nine, seven or eight hours, which is enough for normal sleep for a healthy adult—but because Qing Gege’s lie was too weak, leaving him very little room to maneuver.
If he could handle it all himself, he might have spun it, but he couldn’t just sneak into the Fang Family last night, reliving old memories with Qing Gege, or worse—sharing a bed, right?
Fang Weiguo leisurely sipped his white tea, spitting out the tea leaves, "No rush, take your time to come up with something."
"..."
"..."
"..."
Jiang Chen glanced at Qing Gege, giving her a helpless look of limited potential, then sighed.
