Chapter 911 - 17: Xiao Chong Side Story
After checking in, Lin Wanwan went upstairs with the big group in a sulky mood to rest in her room.
The chaperone teacher told them to gather in the lobby downstairs in an hour.
Lin Wanwan swiped the card to enter the room and immediately spotted the slot by the door. She slid the card in smoothly, then turned to shut the door, flopped onto the single bed by the window, and punched the quilt twice to vent her frustration.
She had been super excited and done tons of research for this long-distance trip.
Ever since she got an iPad as a prize from an essay contest, the online world had opened its doors to her.
So even though it was her first time staying at a hotel, she wasn’t the least bit intimidated. She’d already looked up how to use the room card, where to find the emergency exits and evacuation routes, and written everything down in a notebook.
This was supposed to be a fun cheerleading trip, but thanks to Qi Bingqiong, her good mood had been completely ruined.
After lying there for a while, the more she thought about it the angrier she got. She kicked off her shoes, leaned against the headboard, pulled out her iPad, and sent a rant to Xiao Chong.
If she didn’t vent to someone, she felt like she was going to explode.
Xiao Chong replied quickly. He didn’t comment on what Qi Bingqiong had done, he just sent: "Since there was never any joy in your brief dealings, and now there’s annoyance in prolonged contact, keep your distance."
Lin Wanwan replied: "Distance! Definitely distance! We’re done!"
As soon as she sent that huffy line, a video call from Xiao Chong popped up.
Lin Wanwan hurriedly scrambled off the bed, ran into the bathroom to check herself in the mirror, tidied up her hair and clothes, then tapped accept.
On the other end of the video, Xiao Chong was sitting relaxed in the bleachers by the basketball court, sipping Coke. His handsome face suddenly filled the screen, making Lin Wanwan blush even through the display.
Just now, when she was complaining to him in text, Lin Wanwan hadn’t felt anything in particular.
But seeing him now so calm and laid-back, she suddenly felt a little embarrassed, like her ladylike image had been ruined by Qi Bingqiong.
"Wanwan, you’re already at the hotel?"
"Yeah."
"Rooming alone?"
"Yeah."
Xiao Chong laughed. "Perfect, I just wanted to ask you a favor."
Curious, Lin Wanwan asked, "What is it?"
Xiao Chong casually explained, "My aunt’s daughter came along with my parents to watch my game in person. She’ll get to Hai City in about two hours. Would you mind sharing a room with her? That scaredy-cat doesn’t dare stay in a room by herself."
Having a pillow handed to her right when she was dozing off—how could Lin Wanwan possibly mind such a good deal?
She was over the moon and agreed without hesitation, "No problem for me, we can totally share!"
Then she remembered something important. "How old is your cousin?"
If she was still a little kid, Lin Wanwan felt she might not be able to handle it.
Xiao Chong’s answer completely put her at ease. "Third year of middle school, a few months younger than you, lively and outgoing, warms up to people fast. Don’t worry, it won’t be boring living with her—just hope she doesn’t make too much noise for you."
"She won’t." Lin Wanwan beamed a sincerely bright, sunshiney smile. "I like having another girl to stay with anyway."
After they finished talking about that, they chatted idly for a bit more, then reluctantly ended the video call.
Hugging her iPad to her chest, Lin Wanwan rolled across the bed, grinning from ear to ear.
It really was like finding a way out through the willows and flowers after thinking there was no path at all!
Her one hundred and fifty yuan were saved!
On the other end, not long after hanging up the call with Lin Wanwan, Xiao Chong opened WeChat and had a "nice, in-depth chat" with his little cousin, darkly hinting that there were strange noises in this hotel’s bathrooms.
His little cousin, already timid by nature, was immediately terrified. Her imagination took off in all sorts of directions, and in the end she tearfully begged Xiao Chong to think of something—she didn’t want to stay alone in a room.
But she was already in her third year of middle school, so she couldn’t stay in the same room as her uncle and aunt, or her cousin either. It was just so stressful.
So Xiao Chong leisurely told her that a cheerleading squad from his school was staying there too, all girls, and he’d ask if any of them would be willing to squeeze her in.
The outcome hardly needs to be spelled out. The matter was perfectly resolved, and both sides were very satisfied.
When Lin Wanwan went downstairs to assemble, the Xiao Family hadn’t arrived yet, but she had already given her room number to Xiao Chong and also informed the front desk staff at the lobby about it.
Once the Xiao Family arrived, his cousin could check in and go straight up to the room.
After leaving the hotel, Lin Wanwan’s iPad no longer had internet, because her model didn’t support a SIM card.
